History of Khiva - Period One
PERIOD ONE was between the 6th and 5th centuries BC when people started settling around Ichan-qala,
which is evident from the remaining khumcha rims and goblet sides. These finds are proof of the initial
existence there of a small and unfortified settlement, which was subsequently destroyed as the city expanded.
Between the 5th and 4th centuries BC anvient Khorzm witnessed a number of historic turnarounds with the
late 5th century seeing redoubled efforts at strengthening the independent Khorezmian state,
which eventually helped it shed the political sway of the Ahemedides-ruled Iran.
