History - Termez City:
Kampyr - tepa
An ancient settlement site dating back to the 3rd century B.C. - the 2nd century A.D., located on the right bank of the Amudarya river in the Surkhandarya region. The settlement site with an area about 4 hectars, consists of three parts: the citadel (80 X 80 m), the residential area surrouded by fortress walls 5 m thick, with square towers and a most, and the unfortified suburb. The buildings inside the citadel have been completely uncovered. It comprises over 100 permises of different sizes, falling into four blocs divided by corridors. A large architectural complex including over 20 premises was uncovered in the residential area. Burial places of the Zoroastrian type (kata and naus) were found in the suburb. The whole of the fortress wall has been uncovered. Among the finds are Seleucid, Greco-Bacrian and Kushan coins, terracotta, ceramices and unique Bactrian manuscripts on papyrus, the most ancient manuscripts in Central Asia dating back to the first half of the 2nd century A.D.
